Unexpectedly Unconditional Love

Ferrah squealed with glee as she flew past tangled branches, berry bushes, and beehives. Her fluorescent mint tinted hair whipped against her delightfully round and pearly face. Each time she batted her eyelids against the wind, glitter seemed to bounce off her long, feathery lashes. She fluttered her sparkly wings until she reached a clearing in the forest. The sight before her took her breath away. She fluttered back to a nearby branch to take in the sight.

A gigantic man sat in the middle of the clearing. Now, Ferrah knew that humans were huge, but their heads never seem to reach the tree tops. The giant had his head lowered and he was twiddling his thumbs. His sighs could be heard from where Ferrah was perched. Her heart reached out to the giant. Why was he so sad? Fairies never stayed sad for long, and this giant human must have been down for far too long. She inhaled deeply, calming herself before confronting the giant. She flew over to him slowly as she exhaled a long sigh. As she flitted up to the large man’s face, she took into consideration his sheer size. If she upset him, he could squish her betwixt his fingers. Positioning herself a few feet before his eyes, she spoke to him,

“Pray tell large human, why are you so full of melancholy?” Her voice was soft and drifted to the giant in a soothing whisper. He looked up at the tiny fairy. His eyes widened at the sight of her. No creature so sweet, so stunning, so small and delicate as her has ever approached him, let alone talked to him. He was much too surprised to talk back. So he waited for her to say something else, to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

“Sir Giant, why do you look so worn?”

“I…I am always called ‘giant’. I have a name.”

“I am so sorry, what is your name?” She blinked her twinkling tangerine color eyes at him in curiosity. The giant was shocked, no one has never bothered to ask his name. He answered,

“Masashi…my name is Masashi.”

“What a suiting name. I like the sound of it. My name is Ferrah, it is a pleasure to meet you.” She smiled at him gently, “You seem so nice, you shouldn’t be so sad.”

“Well you should try being perky when every village depends on you to do the heavy lifting and they don’t give you a word of thanks.” When he said that, he bowed his head again and slumped his shoulders. Ferrah’s heart reached out to him even more and she felt a desire to make him happy again. Gliding closer to his face, she gave him a peck on the cheek. The shy kiss felt like butterfly wings against his skin and his heart flipped at the feeling. She began to stroke his cheek softly; a delicate touch that enchanted Masashi.

“Ferrah?”

“Oh, Masashi. I want you to be happy. I can tell that your soul is pure and strong, you are a good giant. Your aura makes me want to be at your side for eternity.” Her kind words lifted Masashi’s spirits and made him seem to float to the heavens. And that is when he realized, he not only liked his new found friend, he loved having Ferrah with him. He wanted nothing more than to protect the delicate being; he wanted to see her sparkle next to him every day. Lifting his finger, he managed to gently stroke her tiny head. A spark seemed to surge through them, it was as if their hearts felt connected, like they were in perfect sync, like their souls were playing the same harmony in perfect tune. Ferrah continued to snuggle his cheek as she sang soothing tunes to his ear. The words were like magic to him and his eyes began to droop. He grinned, finally knowing the feeling of love and the sweet touch of compassion filled his heart with such joy, he knew there was no better feeling in the world.

And the feeling would last for the both of them. Masashi’s loyal soul kept her at his side, encouraging him, and caring for his every need. Ferrah’s kind heart kept him close to her wings, he became more gentle, and more patient than any other giant with her at his side to calm him. With every passing day, their love for each other grew deeper and stronger. And Ferrah knew that she would never leave Masashi until the day her sparkle ceases to shine and he knew he would never leave Ferrah’s side until the day he dies.
